Regular maintenance as recommended by the manufacturer is essential to ensure the long life of laboratory devices and their performance as on the first day.
The intervals of these maintenances vary depending on each device group. Device maintenance can be divided into two main categories: maintenance performed by the user and maintenance performed by authorized service technicians.
- User maintenance includes providing the necessary environment for the efficient operation of devices, surface cleaning of devices (without using abrasive chemicals), cleaning filters accessible to the user, observing any differences in the general appearance of devices, etc. These are simple checks and cleaning tasks.
- Authorized Technical Service maintenance includes checking whether devices are operating under proper conditions (electrical connections, ambient temperatures, air flow direction, etc.), checking device components, periodic replacement of parts reaching the end of their service life, and cleaning and checking areas of the device that the user cannot access.
As mentioned earlier, the intervals of these maintenances vary for each device group. Below, we list the basic procedures generally carried out by authorized technical service personnel.
Refrigerators and Freezer Devices
The cooling groups used in your laboratories for sample storage and preservation operate at +4°C, -20°C, -40°C, -80°C, or -150/196°C. It is important for the safety of the samples stored that these devices operate at the correct temperature and with high temperature accuracy. The continuity of suitable conditions is ensured by performing regular preventive maintenance.
Within the scope of annual regular maintenance:
- Checking environmental conditions
- General component checks
- Temperature deviation checks
- Sensor calibrations for liquid nitrogen tanks
- Replacement of parts requiring periodic changes (fan motors, batteries, gaskets)
Incubators (CO2 Incubators, Multi-Gas Incubators)
Incubators, which simulate the environment for cell reproduction and growth under laboratory conditions, must be regularly inspected to ensure optimal conditions for cell growth and reliability of experimental results. In addition to user observations, the following procedures are carried out by authorized technical service as part of preventive maintenance.
- Calibration of device gases
- General component checks
- Checking gas lines, replacing hoses
- Replacement of gas filters
- Replacement of CO2 and O2 sensors when necessary
- Temperature calibration
- For UV lamp models; lifespan check and performance testing
Laminar Flow Cabinets, Biosafety Cabinets and Fume Hoods
The most important factor for airflow devices used in laboratories for product, user, and environmental safety is whether the device has an airflow rate appropriate to its protection class. Identifying the factors affecting this is the responsibility of the Authorized Technical Service personnel. The main procedures performed include:
- Measurement of device airflow using properly calibrated instruments
- Checking filter saturation levels
- Checking device error codes if any
- Sensor calibrations
- Replacement of device filters
- Replacement of fan motors when necessary
- Replacement of device glass carrier mechanisms
- Device decontamination

Washing and Disinfection Devices
Washing and disinfection devices used for washing and disinfecting glassware in laboratories require regular maintenance depending on their design features. Since the reusability of washed materials may affect future studies, this is important.
- Checking water inlets and outlets of the device, checking water pressure
- Checking stainless steel filters of the device
- Checking detergent pumps and replacing when necessary
- For models with drying function, replacing HEPA filters filtering the air
Autoclaves – Steam Sterilizers
Autoclaves and steam sterilizers used for sterilizing laboratory materials require periodic replacement of certain parts due to the corrosive effect of high pressure and temperature.
According to manufacturer recommendations and technical inspection, door/lid gaskets are generally replaced periodically. For vacuum pump autoclaves, pump maintenance and oil change are performed; for generator-type autoclaves, generator inspection and maintenance are carried out.
Centrifuges
Checks are performed depending on the accessories used in refrigerated and ventilated types of centrifuges.

- Inspection of lids and gaskets, replacement when necessary
Imaging and Analysis Devices
General structural checks of the device, electrical connections, and software checks are performed. Necessary software updates are applied. Parts with limited service life related to the device are replaced.
