Description

Liquid Nitrogen Tanks

Liquid nitrogen tanks are specially designed containers used to safely store liquid nitrogen at extremely low temperatures. Liquid nitrogen has a boiling point of -196 °C (-321 °F), making it an extremely cold substance. For this reason, tanks used for storing liquid nitrogen must be resistant to such low temperatures and provide a high level of thermal insulation.


Types of Liquid Nitrogen Tanks

Liquid nitrogen tanks are mainly divided into two primary groups based on their intended use and capacity.


Dewar Tanks

Dewar tanks consist of two nested metal containers. The inner vessel holds the liquid nitrogen, while the outer vessel is vacuum insulated. This design minimizes heat transfer. Dewar tanks are generally preferred for storing and transporting small volumes of liquid nitrogen.


Pressurized Tanks

Pressurized tanks are used to store larger volumes of liquid nitrogen. They feature an insulation system similar to Dewar tanks; however, they are equipped with additional components to control internal pressure.


Applications of Liquid Nitrogen Tanks

Liquid nitrogen tanks are widely used in many different fields that require extremely low temperatures.


Biology and Medicine

Examples include long-term storage of cells, tissues, and organs (cryopreservation), storage of blood and blood products, preservation of vaccines and biological samples, and cryotherapy applications used in cancer treatment.
