These cabinets purify the air by passing it through a HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filter and blow it into the work area in a unidirectional, constant speed (laminar flow). This significantly reduces the risk of contamination from the external environment for samples and processes. There are two main types of laminar flow cabinets: Horizontal Laminar Flow Cabinets: In these cabinets, the filtered air flows horizontally towards the operator. This type of cabinet is ideal for applications such as electronic component assembly, optical applications, and non-sterile but particle-sensitive work. However, they are not suitable for working with biologically hazardous materials because the airflow passes over the operator. Vertical Laminar Flow Cabinets: In these cabinets, the filtered air flows vertically from top to bottom. This design offers better protection for the sample against contamination risks originating from the operator and is preferred for applications where sterile conditions are crucial, such as biological studies and drug preparation.
